Collaborative Social Robot research

We welcome Thomas Young to the Cobot Maker Space as a new user.  Thomas is based in the School of Computer Science at the University of Nottingham and is working on two robotic studies using Robin, our humanoid robot.

The first study involves robin acting as a misleading and useful robotic assistant. The robot was perceived as teleoperated or autonomous with changes made to Robin’s voice. We tracked participant performance, attitude and mental workload via the different conditions.

The second study involves the use of Robin as a assistant for collaboration between two teams who will use Robin as a tool of communication as they work together to build different Lego models. Robin will be used to transport Lego pieces from a parts team to an assembly team. This work supports the Robots Mediating Interaction project led by Horizon Digital Economy Research.
