Professor Praminda Caleb-Solly has been appointed Academic Director of the National Rehabilitation Centre. This is a significant role that both recognises Praminda’s leadership in intelligent sensing and assistive robotics, and through closer involvement with the NRC will provide multiple opportunities in the broader application of AI and robotics for rehabilitation.
Praminda who is Professor of Embodied Intelligence in the School of Computer Science, also leads the Cyber-physical Health and Assistive Robotics Technologies research group (CHART) with a focus on investigating different ways in which socially and physically assistive robotics and sensor-based intelligent technology can assist people with disabilities and long-term conditions, as well as their carers, in providing support for activities of daily living.
The National Rehabilitation Centre (NRC) is a partnership programme between the University of Nottingham (UoN), Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust (NUH) and Loughborough University (LU) to develop a new rehabilitation facility at the Stanford Hall Rehabilitation Estate in the East Midlands. The NRC is part of the Government’s New Hospitals Programme and will be the only such facility in the UK. It will establish a new operating model which integrates clinical rehabilitation treatment with education, training and research and innovation under one roof. The NRC will be co-located with the Defence Medical Rehabilitation Centre (DMRC), providing unparalleled opportunities for sharing knowledge, facilities, education, and research. The Centre is due to open in Spring 2025.
